How To Clean A Yoga Mat

We may all have tried it before and go to a yoga class with friends after work, but you don't want to bring a yoga mat to a date, so you will directly use the yoga mat in the yoga classroom. There are also people who practice yoga by themselves at home, but never clean the yoga mat.

But are these yoga mats clean?

Robert Lahita, a professor at Rutgers University School of Medicine, said: "Yoga mats are the worst." Because people often sweat on it but hardly clean it, bacteria, fungi and viruses will be lurking on unwashed yoga mats.

From a medical perspective: Yoga mats are the best vector” that can cause skin infections. For example, someone has ringworm or staphylococcus infection, and he sweats during the sun salutation, and then does it on the yoga mat. Divide the corpse, so that no matter who uses this yoga mat in the future, they will be exposed to ringworm, staphylococcus, or other more bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Yoga practitioners are extremely susceptible to microbial infections because most of their skin is in contact with yoga mats, as well as other parts of the body, such as feet, back, forehead, and chest.

It is undeniable that yoga makes our minds and bodies very good, but yoga mats can make people sick. Therefore, when practicing yoga, it is recommended that you bring your own yoga mat and develop the habit of regular cleaning.

cleaning method:

1. Put two cups of water and 4 drops of detergent into the sprayer, spray the yoga mat, and then dry it with a clean and dry towel.

2. Mix a small amount of washing powder with water, then wipe the mat with a damp cloth dipped in washing powder water, rinse the yoga mat, and place it in a cool, ventilated place to dry

Precautions for cleaning:

1. To ensure hygiene, it is best to clean the yoga mat every other week. If the number of exercises is not frequent, the cleaning cycle can be extended appropriately.

2. When cleaning the yoga mat, do not use a harder brush to scrub it, which will cause the surface film to break and fluff.

3. After spraying the cleaning agent on the yoga mat, wipe it with a clean towel.

4. The cleaned yoga mat should not be exposed to the sun! Exposure to the sun will cause the yoga mat to crack and peel and reduce its service life.
